Alejandra Ríos Pérez spent two and a half years supporting Indigenous and rural women in Mexico's Sierra Madre Oriental. Then she left to pursue a master's in rural sociology. To finish her degree, Ale must do what scholars rarely do: analyze her own work. That means going back.

Her thesis examines the community organizing she herself led, requiring her to return to the Sierra and walk again with those she left behind. Her mother fled this same Sierra 40 years ago. Her grandmother, who longs to return but cannot, questions whether Ale can even call herself an Indigenous woman without speaking Otomí or having grown up there.

The film follows Ale between theory and practice, between leaving and not quite leaving. A story about purpose, identity, female leadership, and how distance reveals the true impact of our work.
